Navigation Basics

This course is designed to give you the fundamentals of navigation to carry into the field.  It will be followed by a field course later in the fall to test the skills learned in the classroom.  By the end of the day, you should be able to effectively use a compass, read and interpret maps, plot coordinates, plan a route, account for contingencies on that route, and integrate GPS and smartphone technology to get where you are going in a safe and efficient manner.
